Guy fawkes isn't the only character to attempt to overthrow the ruler of his day. He is also no longer the best one to fail and be sentenced to dying. Another character set to suffer this fate is the jacobean, william maxwell, better called lord nithsdale. His crime is to have supported and played a widespread position inside the catholic led, jacobite rebel of 1715 that helps the old pretender's try to seize the throne back from its protestant king for himself. The jacobite forces to start with have a few successes however at the warfare of preston in lancashire they're soundly crushed. In the subsequent aftermath lord nithsdale is arrested at the 14th november of 1716 and moved to the tower of london.
His destiny potentialities look bleak. As a substitute forlornly he pleads guilty at his trial and begs the king for a pardon on the basis that he felt pressurized into joining the insurrection in opposition to his will. The king is in no mood for granting mercy and so in january 1717 he sentences him to demise for excessive treason on 24 february. Such is the king's displeasure that lord nithsdale is ordered to go through the indignity and horror of being hung, drawn and quartered.
In maximum instances this will be the give up of the tale because the prisoner reluctantly accepts that there's little they could do to trade their fate. But what makes this story exceptional is the dogged solve of his wife, winifred, the countess of nithsdale. She absolutely can not be given existence without her husband and is ready to visit any period to assist him.
